The story of Focus Stoves begins in 1965 when Bob Newson established his business as a precision engineer, building a reputation for quality craftsmanship, technical expertise, and attention to detail.
In 1969, Peter Kelly joined Bob and together they developed the business, eventually recognising the growing demand for wood burning stoves. In 1979 they began supplying and installing wood burning stoves, helping to establish Focus Stoves as one of the South’s most respected independent stove specialists.
Alongside stove sales and installation, Focus Stoves developed a specialist manufacturing capability, producing flue pipe and bespoke components for the wood burning stove industry. Today, Focus manufactured flue systems and specialist parts are supplied to customers throughout the United Kingdom.
For more than four decades, the business has earned a reputation for expert advice, quality workmanship, and outstanding customer service, helping thousands of homeowners enjoy the warmth and character of wood burning stoves.
In 2026, Focus Stoves joined West Dean Wood Stoves, bringing together two established businesses with a shared commitment to quality, safety, and customer care. This partnership enables Focus customers to access a broader range of specialist services, including chimney sweeping, stove servicing, CCTV camera inspections, chimney repairs, flue maintenance, and installation services, all delivered by an expanded team of experienced professionals.
Importantly, Peter Kelly continues to play an active role within the business as a Board Advisor, providing strategic guidance and sharing the industry knowledge and expertise that have helped shape Focus Stoves for more than fifty years.
Today, Focus Stoves remains committed to the values on which it was built: expert knowledge, quality craftsmanship, trusted advice, and exceptional customer service. As part of West Dean Wood Stoves, we are proud to offer customers a complete solution for stove installation, servicing, chimney care, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring their appliances continue to operate safely and efficiently for years to come.
We do not sell on the internet, stoves need to be carefully chosen to ensure that they don’t get you too hot, or not hot enough. Stoves vary in quality and feel, so you need to see them, touch them, work the controls, open the doors and get a full feel of how the stove is going to work. The look and feel of a stove can not be judged solely from a brochure, or photograph. The best way to chose the right stove for you is to visit our showroom in Four Marks, where we have over 60 stoves on display, 10 of which can be lit. To help chose your stove it would be helpful if you know the size of your room and the size of your fireplace, photographs would also be useful. We can then give you a short list of suitable stoves to chose from.
We can organise installers to modify or build fireplaces, fit chimney liners to existing chimneys, build Stainless Steel chimney systems where there is currently no chimney. They all take a great deal of pride in their work and will work cleanly and efficiently, using dust sheets and rubber mats to protect your house. They will take away all rubbish and try to leave the house as tidy as they found it.
We manufacture flue components to our own design on the premises, selling components to chimney and stove manufacturers and other stove shops throughout the British Isles.
